Robert Brasier
Puzzles About Art
By looking at and examining both real
and fictional case studies on aesthetic
issues, this new series led by artist
and educator
Robert Brasier
will
open doors of discussion on a variety
of art-related topics.
Art and Artworks
Wednesday, October 16, 7 – 8 p.m.
What is art? What is a work of art?
Discuss these questions by examining
The Chimpanzee Painter, Duchamp’s
Fountain,
Sol Lewitt’s
Wall Drawing,
and Christo’s constructions.
Beauty and Ugliness
Wednesday, November 20, 7 – 8 p.m.
Examine the notion of subjective
and objective beauty as well as the
standard of beauty through the cases
of Van Gogh’s
Night Café,
Bacon’s
Painting,
and Picasso’s women.
This series of lectures is made possible by a
generous gift from Nancy & Tom Cunningham.
America’s Economic/Political
Outlook for 2014
Friday, October 25, 7 – 8 p.m.
The Library is pleased to host a lively
discussion with guest speakers
Morris
Beschloss
and
Steve Kelly.
Morris
Beschloss, businessman, consultant,
economist, and financial columnist for
The Desert Sun,
has his sights on all
things economic from a macro to a
nearly micro-analysis of actions that
affect the markets. Steve Kelly has
been a fixture on local talk radio in
our Valley for twenty-five years. He is
heard M-F, 4-6 PM drive time, on KPTR
1450 AM, with “Kelly’s Corner.”
The evening’s topics will center on
global and US economics. Mr. Kelly
and Mr. Beschloss are not always
aligned on issues, or in agreement
on what serves our Desert and nation
best, but their positions are substantive,
well-argued, and often based on the
history that has brought us to this point.
Please arrive early, as this event brings
a full audience each year!
