Lucille Ball: Her Life on the
Silver Screen
Monday, December 9, 1 – 4 p.m.
Dubbed “Technicolor Tessie,” red-
headed, blue-eyed Lucille Ball was a
studio darling during the 1930s and
40s – even though studio heads had
no idea what to do with her! While
Ms. Ball was able to move effortlessly
between comedy, horror, and drama,
her hard-to-photograph coloring and
unique charm kept her relegated to the
B movies.
Co-starring in screwball comedies such
as
Stage Door
with Ginger Rogers and
Katherine Hepburn, and headlining
a few gems such as
The Big Street
with Henry Fonda, Ms. Ball had a solid
cinematic career until television came
along and revealed her true destiny.
Join art and culture journalist
Stacy
Davies
for an in-depth look at the
fascinating film career of Lucille Ball
and a screening of her off-beat noir,
Lured,
co-starring George Sanders
and Boris Karloff.
