Memories of Boris
This exhibit commemorates the life
and career of Boris Karloff, who is
recognized as one of “the true icons
of horror cinema.” His daughter, Sara
Karloff, shares photographs, awards,
and memorabilia of her famous
father. On exhibit in the Annenberg
Reading Room are pictures from
the collection that show Karloff as
he appeared in some of his films
including
Frankenstein, The Bride of
Frankenstein,
and
The Mummy.
The
films will be screened at the Library on
October 28, 29, and 30. (See page 9).
Some of the items on exhibit in the
David Bryant Lobby Showcases were
presented to Karloff from his adoring
fans over the years.
This exhibit runs through October 31.
A Special Exhibit of Cross-Stitch
This exhibit is part of a collection of
cross-stitch made over the years by Mrs.
Janet Buretz. The embroidery depicts,
in rich detail, early American life with
a quirkiness, warmth, romance, and
sentimentality for times past. Traditional
motifs are used to relate the history,
geography, folklore, and cultural heritage
of the United States. Images include
country scenes, farm life, alphabets,
holiday celebrations, and animals.
An efficient cross-stitcher tries to find the
best solution for covering an area of linen
while minimizing the color change “set-
up” time. The art also involves selecting
the best route when stitching so that the
stitching is uniform on the reverse side.
